Day 21: Beatles: Magical Mystery Tour, Beetlejuice & Better Off Dead

Magical Mystery Tour

Whose Movie: Steph's

Rating: Not the best Beatles movie, but still fun.
So Matt's biggest issue with this movie was that it didn't have a plot, and I'll give him that.  The movie was 50 minutes of random stuff shoved together with some great Beatles songs like "I Am the Walrus," "Blue Jay Way," and "Fool on the Hill."  Other than the songs, the rest of the movie doesn't make much sense whatsoever.  Out of the Beatles movies, it's my least favorite because of it's lack of plot, but I still enjoy it because it has some of my favorite songs in it, especially "I Am the Walrus."

Beetlejuice

Whose Movie: Steph's

Rating: Awesome
If I had to pick a favorite director, I would pick Tim Burton.  I love his movies, and I love Danny Elfman's score for all his movies.  I especially love Beetlejuice.  After watching, I turned to Matt and told him that no matter how many times I see this movie, I still find it awesome.  We watched it and Matt finally was able to enjoy a movie in our collection again.  He sat their quoting lines right along with Bettlejuice. The movie will never get old.

Better off Dead

Whose Movie: Matt's

Rating: Super funny
This movie is HILARIOUS. I've seen it a couple times, but it had been a while since we last watched it, so I had forgotten most of the movie.  But, I was laughing through most of it.  Beginning with Lane's (John Cusack) obsession with his girlfriend Beth, to his mom's cooking, to "I want my two dollars!" to "Sorry your mom blew up Ricky." The movie made me laugh, even though at times it could be very random.

Next up in our collection: Big, Big Fish and Big Trouble in Little China

Day 20: Beatles: Help!

Help!

Whose Movie: Steph's

Rating: Fab
This is my favorite of the Beatles movies.  I like it because it's hilarious, and it's the boys at their best.  The plot is simple: A fan from the East has mailed Ringo the sacrificial ring and he's wearing it, so the guys from the temple are trying to kill Ringo throughout the movie.  Hilarious antics follow.  They filmed in England (duh), Switzerland and The Bahamas.  Matt liked this movie better than Hard Day's Night, because there was an actual plot to the movie.  This movie has great songs in addition to the plot.  One of the songs is embeded below.

I recommend anyone who hasn't seen this movie to watch it. I've seen it A LOT and I was still laughing out loud at their antics. Especially at the attempts made on Ringo's life when the people from the temple were trying to get the ring.  Another favorite scene is "Paul's Adventure on the Floor."

Day 19: Beatles: A Hard Day's Night

A Hard Day's Night

Whose Movie: Steph's (isn't it obvious?)

Rating: Fab, gear and all those other teenage hyperboles (quoted from the movie :) )
I love this movie.  It's the Beatles at the most Beatley :)  It's not my favorite of the Beatles movies, but I love it just the same.  It's an exaggerated version of the day in the life of the Beatles.  It has all of my favorite lines in in that I used to say all the time in high school.   It has great songs, and I could listen to the boys' Liverpudlian accents all day.  Now that I've watched this movie, I want to rewatch all 8 hours of The Beatles Anthology :)  Matt thought the movie was "eh" because he couldn't understand what the boys' were saying half the time.  Now I'm going to share a couple of my favorite lines :)

John: Eh, who's that little old man?
Paul: What little old man?
John: That little old man.
Paul:  Oh, that's me grandfather.
George: That's not your grandfather.
Paul: How do you figure that one out?
George: I've seen your grandfather, he lives in your house.
Paul: That's my other grandfather, this is my other one.

Paul's Grandfather: I thought I was supposed to be getting a change in scenery? So far I've been in a train and a room, a car and a room and a room and a room.

George: Those are dead grotty.

Next movies in our collection are the last 2 Beatles movies, and then Beetlejuice.
