Day 1: About A Boy and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective

Anyone who knows me, knows that Matt and I LOVE movies.  All you have to do is come to our apartment and view our extremely large movie collection to know that.  We have almost two hundred movies.  We can't pass up good deals to buy movies.  And we don't stop there, we go to the theater at least twice a month to see movies, and we go to the video store and library and rent movies.  Yesterday, Matt had an idea of how we can entertain ourselves, and save money in the meantime.  He suggested that we start watching all of our movies, in alphabetical order.  I agreed.  It'll be easy, since we've already got the movies organized in alphabetical order, so we just start at the beginning.  I decided to start a blog to talk about our adventure, since it will take a year or more to accomplish this goal.  Tonight we started off by watching two movies.

About A Boy

Whose movie: Steph's

Rating: Not lame, enjoyed by both parties.

Okay, so the first movie on our shelf is "About A Boy."  I love this movie, and Matt hates Hugh Grant.  We put the movie in, and I loved it.  First time I watched it and didn't cry at the big climax scene near the end.  Matt had a good laugh, and didn't mock the movie at all, considering we agreed to being able to mock the movies we watch.  He even made a few appropriate comments along the way.  A great way to start off our movie marathon.

Ace Ventura: Pet Detective

Rating: Lame-ish.  Was mocked by both parties.


Okay, so we bought the Ace Ventura collection for nostalgia sake.  We loved the movies as kids, and come on, it's Jim Carey.  However, this movie did not age well at all.  First of all, this movie is totally not kid friendly.  How we both watched it as kids is beyond me.  I would definitely not show it to the kids I babysit.  There were a few genuinely funny parts that we laughed a loud to.  We loved seeing Jim Carey being Jim Carey, and we laughed about how when we were kids we used to go around saying "Alrighy Then."  However, mockable instances were things like, two people would not be able to carry a dolphin by themselves, or wouldn't Ace be able to see in the water and know it wasn't Snowflake in there?  All in all it was a fun experience, but the movie doesn't hold up very well.
